Social-Emotional Learning Author Event

A Day to be Brave is an interactive author event, based on Angelique Monet's picture book The Bravest Worrier that utilizes storytelling and hands-on activities to model healthy ways to face worry opening doors for healthy discussions between adults and children about their fears.

Beginning in 2020, a virtual version of A Day to be Brave event invites audiences into the studio of Angelique Monet where she delivers her message of bravery in a behind-the-scenes magical kind of way.

Angelique Monet, poet, artist, and parent, used her life journey and imagination to write and illustrate a story, to support her daughter’s battle through worry.  This parenting moment created The Bravest Worrier movement!

In 2016, when The Bravest Worrier hit selves, Angelique realized the widespread need for tools to battle worry and anxiety in children. This is when The Bravest Worrier’s ‘A Day to be Brave’ author event was born.

Using whimsical illustrations, cute characters, and poignant props, so far, more than 50,000 children connected with authentic dialogue about the isolation of worry and the bright spaces beyond worry, full of opportunities. But, the Bravest Worrier movement is just getting started.  Building a nation of Bravest Worriers continues!

The Bravest Worrier movement directly impact thousands of children by promoting literacy, advocating self-esteem,

inspiring courage and bringing bravery to life.

Fueling The Bravest Worrier movement:

Zayny, a thoughtful, young girl who battles worry in the book The Bravest Worrier;

An augmented reality app that uses a mobile device’s camera to bring The Bravest Worrier’s pages to life. Together Zayny & the reader embark on an exciting virtual adventure making worry disappear.

The Bravest Worrier is one of the world's first picture books to have a companion augmented reality app that brings the entire book to life as though the character is in the room with you.

Through the A Day to be Brave event, children will walk away with a roadmap to success including:

  • Tools to build self-worth.

  • Preparedness to recognize their strengths and ask for help.

  • Understanding that courage and fear coexist facilitating emotional growth and change.

  • Means to cultivate their natural gifts and those they gain through education.

* Bonus: Complementary and comprehensive SEL-focused curriculum package integrating

CASEL's 5 competencies.

Angelique Monet provides an engaging, interactive visit for students.  Not only does her book, “The Bravest Worrier,” touch on Social Emotional Learning issues, such as worry and anxiety, but it also provides a relatable character who overcomes those fears.  This book really comes alive with Monet’s visit as students have a chance to touch artifacts from the book.  Hearing from the app developer and viewing the app that goes along with the book is also fantastic.  Hearing how this project was a true family experience for the author is fascinating.  From the displays to the sound effects, this visit not only taps into all the senses but also the imagination!  It is more than an author visit, it is an immersive experience!
